Is the “real time“ facilitating of spoken communication between people who speak different languages, by converting the original message to the nearest possible equivalent into the target language, either simultaneously or consecutively.
The process is described by both the words interpreting and interpretation.
The interpreter's function is to convey every semantic element (tone and register) as well as every intention and feeling of the message that the source-language speaker is directing to target-language recipients.
There are two basic forms of interpretation:
Simultaneous
This Is a demanding, highly skilled craft where the interpreter listens to the source language and interprets what the speaker is saying into the target language at the same time as it is being spoken. |
Consecutive
The interpreter converts a statement or phrase after it is spoken, from the source language into the target language. |
